In August of 2018, a commercial truck was taking a group of piglets to the slaughterhouse. However, it would appear that fate had another plan for one of the doomed animals.
As if by some miracle, a 3-week-old piglet had managed to fall from the truck and landed on the busy St. Louis interstate – now that’s a stroke of luck! But it wasn’t smooth sailing just yet.
The baby pig was still stranded in the middle of a very busy road; he was still in immense danger. The little piglet had fallen on the hot concrete and he had suffered a broken leg and severe road rash. Thankfully, the heavy traffic managed to stop in time.
One driver stopped in her tracks when she spotted the tiny piglet. The lady picked up the little pig and brought him to safety. But what was she going to do next?
Thankfully, she knew exactly who to call – Randy Grim.
Randy Grim had lost his mother and he had been suffering some medical scares of his own. Because of this, he knew he wanted to do something nice so he opened his own animal rescue. Randy started the Stray Rescue of St. Louis to try and help animals in need.
He mainly had horses and hospice dogs and he had no real experience raising pigs. But Randy Grim wasn’t going to leave the little pig homeless so he decided to take him in. He appropriately named the little piglet ‘Pickles the Miracle Pig’.
In fact, Randy said Pickles came into his life at just the right time. Pickles was scared and untrusting of humans but after spending time with Randy, he’s learned to love and relax. Oh, and he is the cutest little thing!
