Family reunions are always sweet encounters. For one mother, reuniting with her baby after she was kidnapped was a whole other level. But this mother isn’t human, she’s an orangutan. Orangutans can reject their babies if they stop smelling of them, so would the orangutan reunion go well?
The footage was documented on a new show for Channel 4 called Orangutan Jungle School. In the clip, we see the young orangutan mother get reunited with her baby.
The show follows orphaned orangutans being cared for before they get released back into the wild. Clara the orangutan mother was reintroduced to her daughter, Clarita, as the park staff anxiously watched.
The mother and her daughter had been living a semi-independent life on an island before baby Clarita was kidnapped by one of the dominant males.
Despite finding Clarita in one piece, the park staff were very concerned about the orangutan reunion. Would Clara reject her daughter?
The mother can reject the baby when the baby smells different like the first time.
The mother and daughter were reintroduced slowly and they were separated with a cage for the baby’s safety. But as soon as the team saw Clara reach through the cage to touch her daughter, they knew they were in for an emotional reunion.
Clara was finally given back her baby. In fact, she hugged her baby so tightly that park staff knew they wouldn’t be separated again. Clara gave Clarita all the love and affection that she possibly could and it’s nothing short of emotional.
