We all wish our pets could live forever. But one cat called Rubble certainly gave it his best shot. This lovely kitty lived for an incredible length of time with his owner Michele Foster. She’s from Exeter, England, and got Rubble as a kitten back in 1988. She bought him as a gift for herself on her twentieth birthday. But, she didn’t expect him to live until he was 137 years old!
“He’s a lovely cat, although he has got a little grumpy in his old age,” Michele said. “He has plenty of life left in him yet, but I don’t think we will go down the Guinness World Record route as I am not sure he would like lots of people coming to see him or a fuss being made out of him.”
“He is old now,” she continued, “and would not like too much attention or be hassled. We would prefer if he was just left to live out his old age in peace.”
It is believed Rubble is now older than previous Guinness World Record-holder Scooter. The Siamese cat from Mansfield, Texas, died in 2016 at age 30. However, the oldest cat ever recorded (although not by Guinness) was called Creme Puff, who lived until the ripe old age of 38.
The 137-Year-Old Cat
Rubble turned 30 last year, which makes him about 137 in human years! 137! The equivalence is worked out based on the average lifespans of cats and humans, so it is clear he is doing exceptionally well.
The ginger and white Maine Coon-type cat is very happy and receives regular checkups from the vet, as well as medication for his high blood pressure. Michele got Rubble from her sister’s friend’s litter, and the pair have grown up together. She got him when she lived alone and was feeling pretty down and lonely. He helped her through some dark times, and the pair formed an incredible bond.
