At happiest we focus on uplifting content that makes your day, but every once in a while a story comes along, that we have a duty to share, this is one of those stories. This last week, a squad of dolphin hunters in Japan, heartbreakingly are said to have made their biggest haul yet. In Taiji, they managed to trap 300 dolphins, which is know as a super pod.
The video can be found at the foot of this article.
Having trapped the pod, they then proceeded to tear families apart, they earmarked the youngest, prettiest dolphins. All of this is done so they can mercilessly sell them to marine parks. They then toss the unwanted family members back into the sea.
Undoubtedly the saddest story to come out of this horrific and inhumane event is the struggle of the mother dolphins to try in vain to protect their beloved babies from the hunters. A video below shows just how heartbreaking this can be.
The video was recorded by Liz Carter, A volunteer who travelled to japan to both document and raise awareness of the heartbreaking event
It shows the hunters selecting the ‘Cutest’ looking baby to sell to an aquarium, they then drag it away from his mother’s side. You can see it straining to get back to its mother, as the mother fights helplessly to get passed the divers.
The police presence in the area is high in an attempt to stop onlookers from intervening. But the work that Carter and others are doing is essental, It’s the hope that by raising awareness about these atrocities people will start boycotting dolphin shows.
