Military Dogs Honored With New Stamps From US Postal Service

By - 14th August 2019

We all know dogs are great, but some do very important jobs. For instance, service dogs help disabled people live more safe and comfortable lives. Think of guide dogs, doing such a noble job. Military dogs are no different, putting their lives on the line like many of our servicemen and women. Whether they are sniffer dogs or on the front line. In the airport or staying local, they do an important service for our country.

The US Postal Service has honored them with a brand new stamp collection. The stamps are beautifully designed and pay tribute to the dogs that are a part of the military. They are this year’s “forever” collection, and honor the “nation’s brave and loyal military working dogs.” However, they’re pretty popular.

The stamps all have a red, white, or blue background with a star on, and feature the most common breeds of military dogs. These are German shepherds, Dutch shepherds, Labrador retrievers, and Belgian Malinois. But, they are all pictured wearing their work harnesses.

“As a military veteran and former law enforcement officer, I have the greatest appreciation for these animals and the service they provide,” said David C. Williams, vice chairman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors. “Today, these dogs are born and raised to serve alongside soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and women, and members of the Coast Guard. They are heroes deserving of our respect and gratitude.”

“The red, white and blue color scheme represents the American flag and the patriotism displayed by military working dogs,” said the postal service.
