gorillas take selfies with rangers

Gorillas are some of the cleverest animals in the world. In fact, they share a lot of their DNA with humans. As such, if you look into their faces, and especially their eyes, they can show emotions and expressions. Gorillas and humans are very similar, and this evidently extends to both species loving a selfie.

These gorillas in the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo were happy to take photographs with the anti-poaching rangers there to protect them. And when you see the photos, you can easily imagine it as a perfectly posed snap on Instagram ahead of a group night out.

The photos were shared on the Facebook page of The Elite AntiPoaching Units And Combat Trackers and were shared thousands of times.

Virunga itself is Africa’s oldest national park, but it has no trouble modernising with the times. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and the home to the last mountain gorillas in the world. The species is critically endangered, and the team hope that these viral selfies will aid their conservation efforts by way of increasing donations.

The pictured pair, Ndakasi and Matabishi, are throwing all sorts of shapes for the camera. The photoshoots obviously happen frequently, and they are confident in front of the lens. One particular shot, though, got everyone chuckling.
