Firefighters Race To Rescue Three Bear Cubs Who Trapped Themselves In A Bin

By - 2nd November 2018

Here at Happiest, we love seeing people performing rescue missions. Animal rescues are a big part of the stories we share here. And we’ve found another one that is kind, considerate and pretty dangerous.

We’ve found a video of some firefighters rescuing three bears (not a fairytale) that were trapped in a dumpster. The little bear cubs had managed to get themselves stuck in an overturned bin and some firefighters were luckily on hand to try and free the furry creatures.

The firefighters are Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Station 39 in Reno, Nevada was woken by the sound of a tipped over garbage bin. It was early in the morning and when they went to investigate, the bins when they spotted an ‘agitated momma’ bear watching over it.

Firefighter and paramedic, Ed Martin, was one of the men who went to rescue the three bears from the overturned garbage bin

He went over with a long pole to try and lift the bin up. He used the pole so he would be at a safe distance so the cubs wouldn’t attack in fear.

Thankfully, one by one, each of the tiny bear cubs emerged from underneath the overturned bin and they scampered out. Each one running for the woods to reunite with their mom.

While Ed Martin was working on freeing the cubs, engineer Patrick Walsh was trying to deter the mother bear. Even though it was a risky mission, these firefighters managed to rescue the three bears without a hitch.

Let’s just hope they all got back home safe – and that they stay away from bins in future!
