Dogs are pretty intelligent animals, we all know that. When a dog is feeling a little peckish, they may beg for a treat. Not this dog, oh no, this clever pup pays for his grub!
For the past 5 years or so, the campus of Colombia’s Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare has become the welcoming home to a gorgeous black dog named Negro. Negro has become somewhat of a mascot, a guardian of all as he keeps a watchful eye on the students going about their studies.
As a thank you, this gorgeous black pup is cared for by the school’s faculty who give him water, food and a whole lot of love. Most importantly, they give him a safe place to spend the night.
Naturally, the dog has started to grow and accommodate to his surroundings. So much so that he needs to adapt to the times, he doesn’t want to be left behind.
During the early tenure of the dog at the school, he discovered a little store on campus where students could buy things on their breaks. Sometimes, he’d even be fortunate enough to have a cookie bought for him.
That’s when the smart-thinking dog discovered the idea of money and so he decided to try it for himself.
Dog uses leaf as currency!
“He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange,” said teacher Angela Garcia Bernal. “Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie.”
This clever dog had created his own form of currency. Who couldn’t say no to that?! This epiphany moment leads to the dog being granted a cookie and the rest was history. He’d found a way to buy treats!
What’s the best part of the whole situation? Negro had literally found a currency from mother nature. I guess money really does grow on trees!
Negro has been using this technique now for a few years. Staff have made sure he’s only getting treats that are safe for dogs. Of course, they do limit his purchases to just a couple of cookies a day. They don’t want inflation to rise on his leaf-based currency. Nor do they want him to start getting fat.
Schools really are wonderful places, even this dog has learnt about the value of money. What did you think of this incredibly gifted dog? At Happiest we love hearing all of your opinions. So please let us know what you thought of the article in the comment section below. ?
