Dog Falls Overboard Into Freezing Ocean, But Rescuers Miraculously Find Her 5 Weeks Later

Even though fisherman Nick Hayworth knew that his 1-year-old German Shepard, Luna, had fallen off a fishing boat into the waters of the Pacific Ocean, he never lost faith that she would return alive.

Nick said that Luna was a very strong swimmer and that he felt there was a 90% chance she’d make it back to shore.

Navy staffers searched the island for a week before they presumed Luna dead and to be lost at sea.

As you can imagine, Navy staffers were shocked when they found Luna off on an island 80 miles off the coast of San Diego about 5 weeks later.

They saw Luna sitting on the side of the road, wagging her tail. Keep in mind, there are no domesticated animals on the island so it was an unbelievable sight.

Navy staffers opened their car door and called Luna’s name and she jumped right into the car.

She seemed overjoyed that she had been rescued but she appeared to be in good health. Luna was only tired and a little undernourished.

It looks like she’d been surviving off of mice for the past few week,

She really is a miracle dog, according to Fox 5 San Diego Luna not only survived a 2-mile swim to shore, she also survived turbulent weather from the El Niño storms.

The storm would have helped provide drinking water by leaving puddles on the island as well as washing up dead seagulls, fish and rats which would most likely have been Luna’s diet while she was stranded.
