Sometimes in a state of sheer devastation can come a blessed miracle in disguise. At least that’s what happened to one family when they welcomed a new friend into the family.
Tammy Canton and her family recall the event that was Hurricane Harvey and the destruction it left to her town. As the storms got worse, parts of the neighbourhood began to flood.
Her husband noticed out in the field that there was a baby calf struggling to survive while attempting to fight her way out of a strong stream of water. Immediately they went to rescue her and brought the young cow inside to get warm and safe.
The family brought the baby cow into the laundry room and wrapped her up in towels and blankets to try and get some warmth back in her body. She was very sick and was struggling to get better. The Canton’s worried that she wouldn’t make it through the night.
Tammy called the vet and they recommended they let their dog Sealy go in and check on her. They believed that the moral support would comfort the troubled baby cow.
Sealy had been through a similar situation. Sealy was adopted as a baby after being abandoned by her mother. Immediately, this compassionate canine started to comfort and nurse the calf back to help.
After that, Tammy let the whole family of dogs in to check in on the calf which they named ‘Harveigh’ as a reminder that she survived Hurricane Harvey.
Now the family are totally inseparable with Harveigh and she loves bonding with the dogs, especially her new sibling, Sealy.
