As you all know, the wildfires in Northern California have devastated homes and lives for miles around. Many people evacuated, but in the hurry, sadly some creatures had been left behind. Andrea Gaylord waited for almost a month to return back to her home, but she didn’t know what state it would be in.
Andrea Gaylord was finally allowed back to check on her burnt property in Paradise last week. But when she returned, Andrea found an unlikely guest awaiting her arrival.
The fire broke out on the 8th of November and by the 6th of December, she was able to return. Andrea fled her home along with 27,000 others as the fire began to spread.
Andrea Gaylord had notified animal rescue teams that her two dogs had been left behind.
The rescue team contacted her to say that they had found her male Anatolian shepherd mix, Madison, several days later. Shayla Sullivan said that the outdoor guard dog was very apprehensive and kept his distance from her.
Sullivan left water and food regularly for the dog until Andrea returned to her home on Wednesday. But there was even better news, shortly after Shayla found Madison, she also helped locate Madison’s brother Miguel, another Anatolian shepherd mix.
If (the evacuees) can’t be there I’m going to be and I’m not going to give up on their animal until they can get back in.
Miguel was taken to a shelter 85 miles away during the confusion and panic of the wildfire evacuations.
On Friday, Andrea reunited with Miguel and Madison and she couldn’t have been happier. She was so thrilled to see that Madison had not wandered away from the house and he was keeping it safe for her.
Imagine the loyalty of hanging in in the worst of circumstances and being here waiting. Their instinctual job is to watch the flocks and we’re part of them. It’s a comforting feeling.
