School can be hard, especially if you’re different. If you don’t like what’s “cool”, if you dress differently, even if you have bad trainers. Kids are merciless, and they take every opportunity to put others down. Of course, this doesn’t go for all kids, but when a mob mentality starts, it is difficult to quell. This seven-year-old has alopecia and worried that it would make her stand out from the other kids. Especially when the school ran a “crazy hair day”.
But, she shouldn’t have worried. Alopecia is a condition which causes someone’s hair to fall out in large clumps. For seven-year-old Gianessa Wride, doctors believe it was caused by the immense stress of her grandmother passing. Her mom Daniella noticed when she was brushing her little girl’s hair one morning. Soon, it had all fallen out.
But, Gianessa, from Salem, Utah, didn’t like wearing wigs or scarves. She was proud of her bald head. However, her mom was worried about how she’d be treated at school, especially on “crazy hair day”.
So, she came up with a clever idea. She adorned her daughter’s head with beautiful gems! She looks great, don’t you think? Gianessa won all the plaudits at school and styled out her bald head. The Wride family is clearly amazingly creative, and they put their creativity to good use for this event.
“I love being bald,” Gianessa said. “I can do things to my head that other kids can’t.”
It’s amazing that she embraces her baldness, and looks great with it. Hopefully, she will help to normalise alopecia, and even just traditionally masculine hairstyles worn by women. She’s embracing her new look, and we definitely think she looks amazing.
