We all knew someone with one of these Little Tikes toy cars as a kid. Or your playgroup might have had one. They were endless fun. Who knew pretending you had your own car would be so great, but your morning commute when you grew up would be so terrible? However, now you can relive your childhood dreams and take to the roads in your very own red and yellow tike-mobile!
Two brothers, Geoff and John Bitmead, were happily revisiting some childhood memories when they had an idea. They wanted to go back to childhood. To see if they could fit into one of those iconic red and yellow toy cars that they remembered.
So, they built a full-size version. They call it the “Big Tike”, and they went all out. Instead of being powered by a toddler’s tiny feet, it has an engine. The car has headlights, indicators, everything it needs to be completely road legal.
They based the car on the Daewoo Matiz, after noticing similarities in the designs. It was mostly the color by the looks of things. After 1,000 hours of hard work, and over £4,000 (nearly $5,000), their creation was complete. Although, compared to around $50 for the Little Tike, it seems quite expensive.
Their work even landed them a Guinness World Record! They are officially the largest Cozy Coupe in the world.
However, they sold their work of art on eBay around four years ago, turning a healthy profit. The car went to a big kid somewhere in the world for £21,500 (around $33,000 at the time).
Would you buy this hilarious car? Would you dare drive it? Your young kids would love getting dropped at kindergarten in it, but the novelty would probably wear off by their teenage years. Let us know what you think in the comments, and share with your family and friends.
