When 9 year old Noah Smiling received a little bit of pocket money from his parents, he decided he would like to spend it on someone else.
One day he was in Denny’s with his mother, Amanda on a ‘bring your child to work’ day, when he spotted a police officer. He then decided that he wanted to speak to him, as it was his dream to become a police officer himself when he grew up.
Unsure what to say, he asked his mother if he could pay for the officers breakfast. She of course agreed, and also helped him to write out a note on the receipt.
The note read ‘I want to be you when i grow up, thank you for your service’
The police officer named Eddie Benitez was moved by the young boys gesture and then asked if the two could get a picture together, which made Noah’s day. He said:
“It meant that I’m supposed to wake up every morning and put on his uniform and go out there and do what I do. You know? It means that I need to keep trying to be a good example to all these young guys.”
The officer now keeps the note in his front pocket and said that he will keep it for as long as he possibly can. His mom, Amanda said “If 10 years from now, he puts on that uniform and has that badge on, I will be a one proud mom”
