Instead of buying german shepherd puppies for $15,000, police have started adopting rescue pit bulls

Meet the beautiful Phantom and Sarah, these are two pit bulls rescued from a shelter who just proudly became K9 dogs.

Becuase of the bad reputation Pit bulls have got, they are now the #1 breed to be euthanised in the US but officers at North Carolina’s Clay County Sheriff’s Office decided that they could help with the situation.

“What will be the most shocking to some will not be that Clay County Sheriff’s has the new K-9 Deputies, but rather their breed,” the department wrote online, adding: “even though pit bulls get a bad rap in the media, they aren’t all bad dogs and can do great things for the communities they serve.”

By focusing on dogs that had the most uncertain future they are able to offer them a second chance at a happy life.  Obviously, in addition to this, it also saves huge amounts of Taxpayers Dollars.

The two foundations have made it their mission to highlight that Departments do not need to spend $15-$20,000 for a purebred German shepherd or Belgian Malinois to hunt criminals and illegal drugs and they’re also showing shelter dogs deserve to be given a second chance wich they hope will filter down to the general public too, so those thinking of getting a dog might be quicker to consider getting a rescue dogs too. Sounds like a win-win situation. Via: Bored Panda
