So if you’re a cat owner you might have noticed this, Cats actually sleep around twice as much as humans. On average, they sleep around 13 – 16 hours per day which means they actually spend around two-thirds of their life napping.
This means that the only well-known animals that sleep more than cats are bats and opposum.
So why are they so snoozy?
Cats love for sleep is still a bit of a mystery really. However, one thing that can explain a little is that most of the cats are crepuscular animals which means they are most active during dawn and dusk. Cats are natural hunters so their prey such as small rodents is most active when the sun comes up and just before it goes down. So basically if your cat isn’t hunting chances are it’s sleeping.
